CALL FOR PAPERS

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON POLYMER SURFACE CHARACTERIZATION

To be held October 9-11, 2000 at the Robert Treat Hotel; Newark, NJ

The study of polymer surfaces is important from both fundamental and applied points of view. The number of applications dependent on polymer surface properties are legion, and the areas where polymer surfaces are of critical importance and concern range from microelectronics to prosthetics. In the last decade or so, the availability of sophisticated surface analytical techniques, particularly ESCA, has been a boon in enhancing our knowledge of polymer surfaces. The purpose of this symposium is to provide a forum for discussion of various ramifications of the myriad surface analytical techniques now available. Particular focus will be on the dissemination of the latest information available and the cross-pollination of ideas. The technical program will contain both invited overviews and contributed original research papers, and it is planned to chronicle the proceedings properly in a hard-bound volume.

The invited speakers have been selected so as to represent widely differing disciplines and interests, and they hail from academic, governmental and industrial research laboratories. This symposium is planned to be a truly international event both in geographic coverage as well as in spirit.

Among the topics to be covered are:

  1. Tribological Properties of Polymers
  2. Adsorption at Polymer Surfaces
  3. Reactions at Polymer Surfaces
  4. Surface Energetics and Adhesion of Polymers
  5. Polymer Surface Modification
  6. Crazing of Polymer Surfaces
  7. Biomedical applications

This symposium is being organized by MST Conferences, LLC under the direction of Dr. K. L. Mittal, Editor, Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology. A proceedings volume is planned for this symposium and further details will be provided in due course. Please notify the conference chairman of your intentions to present a paper as early as possible. An abstract of about 200 words should be sent by September 15, 2000 to the conference chairman by any of the following methods:
